Feeling Lost After College Rejection? Alternatives you can Do If You Didn't Get Into Physical Therapy School or Simply Can't Afford it.

Updated: Nov 3

The journey to where I am today has been a significant financial and personal investment. Reflecting on my path, if I were to start over with the knowledge I have now, I often wonder what choices I could have made differently while still enjoying the gratifying experience I cherish in my "job" every single day. Also, to empower others to do the same, what would I do differently? What could be done in the current socioeconomic landscape of restrictions to attaining a rewarding career in wellness?

An initial investment would be six years at Northeastern University, so today's starting price is $400k. I pursued an advanced manual therapy program that added another $100,000 to my journey. Additionally, my training in GYROTONIC amounted to about $8,000, while my certified nutritionist program contributed another $5,000.

In a perfect world, you would get into your choice University, have comfortable financial options, and go the route that I did. But if you find yourself in a different boat these days, it can provide great hope to recognize that you can gain much of this knowledge through determination and self-guided learning available on the internet. The resources are abundant, and anyone can access this wealth of information with the right mindset.

.My pursuit of a nutrition certification began in 2002 after an incident where a medical doctor confronted me for "practicing outside my scope" simply for advising a client to explore a gluten-free diet. Ironically, this advice was rooted in genuine care; the patient, who had been suffering from pelvic pain, experienced significant relief and regained her quality of life through my abdominal pelvic myofascial release and dietary advice. It’s a reminder that sometimes, even with the best intentions, we can be met with resistance and exclusion from those who feel insecure in their expertise. Attack the innovators, classic.

Today, you wouldn’t face the same scrutiny for exploring these topics, as concepts like fluoride, cooking with plastic, glyphosate, intermittent fasting, and gluten or dairy-free diets have become widely more acceptable to debate and pivot. While some may still attempt to undermine dietary changes—often citing opinions from their GI specialists (here in Boston, some GI specialists still tell their patients it doesn't matter what they are eating) —a growing community of professionals support these "newer" approaches. Hence, the need for formal certification to counter such skepticism has diminished.

Are you someone who:

Can't afford college?

Didn't get into PT, AT, CN, PA school?

Is concerned about AI replacing many jobs?

Are you looking for a new career inspiration?

Are you already a yoga teacher, meditator, homesteader, nutritionist, mom, dad, or athlete?

My advice is this.

Get a few people together and purchase a massage table. Put one person on the table, start with my three courses, and see if you can do it as a profession. Don't bother listening to my content in the courses until you have a partner lying down. Efficiency with our dwindling attention spans; also, most PT healer personalities are motor learners anyway. For each technique, I talk you through the hands-on. Perform them all for as long as the video is playing, or about 10 minutes each. Your skill will improve obviously with time. Your interface, your depth perception, your knowledge of anatomy...

What I am showing you in the videos is NOT some boring class 101! I hated these classes so that I wouldn't subject you to them. I present what I MOST use in my cash-based, wait-listed practice in Boston. It is priced to be inexpensive, but that doesn't mean it's cheap. Yes, you can start here. It is the highest bar I know, yet there is no lock on this information. If you like it, invest further in an actual career that you can do professionally. No need to spend as much as I did!

The work I do (regardless of my 30 years and the price tag I paid) can and should be learned by more people! Even if you only want it for your family, that is enough of a reason if done within your time and financial resources! $150 for a massage table and $225 for my core three classes to get you started. Foundational Bodywork for Kids is coming soon.

I believe massage therapy school costs around 15-20k. GYROTONIC, Pilates, or Yoga training done well should cost around 10k. Purchasing equipment costs another 10k if you want your own studio. It is attainable, relevant, and soul-directed, and the reward of service is priceless.

With a solid foundation in massage therapy, a few high-quality anatomy classes, and a passion for helping others, you can reach an expertise similar to mine without incurring exorbitant costs. Throughout my 30 years of experience, I have honed my diagnostic skills and teaching methods, packaging vintage published osteopathic techniques. Hence, they are accessible, and I am eager to share them with others.

My courses are inclusive and welcoming to everyone. Many of my live course participants have massage therapists, physical therapists, and athletic trainers in their classes, but I also warmly welcome moms, yoga instructors, and even grandparents who wish to learn for the benefit of their families. The journey of learning and growth is open to all, and together, we can create a supportive community dedicated to health and wellness.

I have recorded modules for lower extremities, cranial sacral, and upper extremities. Alternatively, over the last year, I developed the Parent Bodywork Project, which combines modules with biweekly coaching calls and live classes for participants, as well as longer retreat gatherings, all aimed at providing parents with fundamental tools and structure for learning powerful manual therapy techniques for use at home. The Bodywork Project is the Homesteading/Homeschooling answer for understanding and putting into immediate practice what I know to use on your own families.

Join me for either program model! Where parents become healers at home and simple practices create lifelong impact.
