Why I founded the Parent Bodywork Project.

Updated: 2 days ago

Have you ever wanted to learn how to use your hands to help your kids at home?

Do your kids struggle with ear, breathing, digestive problems or injuries?

Are your kids really healthy overall, but you want to help them with ideal wellness or sports potential?

Let's be real.

Healthcare is broken.

The care is limited to wait-and-see, fear-based, for-profit prescriptions, side effects, and surgeries.

The good news?

Parenting is powerful, and so are your hands!

You can learn to help your kids' bodies develop and heal to their ideal potential!

You can do this from home!

We all have hands, and any intentional, caring human can learn and enjoy the power of myofascial release, visceral release, and somatoenergetics —and being able to do this from home is huge! The Parent Bodywork Project is like homeschooling your child’s potential for body development. We address biomechanics, fascia, lymphatics, sinuses, gut, and emotional regulation, as well as the usual injuries and conditions that could use support.

I am a mom, and I also happen to be a Holistic Physical Therapist with 25 years of experience treating the most difficult adults and kids. I have worked with patients with medically complex and traumatic injuries and with professional athletes. I am here to help you prevent your kids from having future issues from early problems affecting their bodies.

I have heard so many times from my clients who just tripped out on my table, having released their myofascial system and let go of stored trauma like an unraveling sweater, that "you have a gift, not just anyone can do what you do, right!"

We all have gifts. In this case, I had the motivational drive, I spent the time, and I had the best teachers. So I developed this one, and you can too..

So, developing YOUR gift as a healer and having fun doing it is why I founded the Parent Bodywork Project.

If this reason wasn’t enough, there are the following realities…

As a mom, I get it.

It’s hard enough for me to get MYSELF to the dentist, hair stylist, massage therapist, acupuncturist, chiropractor, etc...

Coordinating school schedules, early release to get my own daughter to an appointment, and sitting in traffic to do so are reasonable once per year for her annual physical, but to bring real change to idealize her growth and development? It isn't going to happen!

Because you never know when your child will be "available," Can you guarantee that your toddler will be ready to sit still on a table at 3:00 on a Wednesday?

Of course not! But when I settle in at night with my daughter's bedtime rituals, we set up comfy and work on her body, and it becomes a pleasure, not a fight! The stress of getting your child to appointments and then hoping they will lie still is traded for cozy, connected time together, where you both fall asleep in perfect dreamtime—knowing they grow up too fast and that the modern world is all hell-bent on taking the joy away.

Access.

I live in the Boston area, and many people have to wait months to see cardiologists, Primary Care physicians, or Physical Therapists who take insurance for what will likely be a 30-minute visit, 10 minutes of which are spent on paperwork. That is assuming you have trained people nearby, but often you may live in an area without anyone to assist you. The current wait for my cash-based practice is 3 months, and even then, I still cannot get the continuity you have at home. In my practice, for this reason, I have already been teaching moms (and two dads) how to release their kids' sinuses, ears, knees, ankles, etc...

Because you will also personally benefit!

In 1999, when I started these courses and began treating myself differently, my health was critical. I didn't have the time or finances to receive the hours of care I really needed, BUT I found that simply sitting quietly in service of others was so powerful that my body unwound from that act alone. The reward you will get from accessing a field of consciousness and awareness, a stillness you sit in, is nothing short of magic for giver and receiver. That state of being is more our natural aligned resonance. Being in service with this method is not just another thing on your to-do list.

Because you can still use your providers!

As I mentioned earlier, I teach my moms how to work from home, but they still send their kids and teens in to see me regularly so I can get my eyes and hands on their child. Having done significant work at home, we gain a real head start.

The questions...

Wait, I didn't spend five years at university and attend all the post-grad classes for this and get a professional license...

Won't I hurt my child?

No. All the techniques I am teaching in the Parent Bodywork Project are, in osteopathy and biomedical principles, called indirect techniques, meaning they take tissue into the body easily. Not into the direction of restriction.. not past the body’s answer of “no thanks”.

All techniques are gentle, so they work with the spinal cord, NOT against it at the consensual edge, meaning we have protective reflexes that can be overridden with aggressive stretching or fast maneuvers. We will not be doing ANY of this. When we learn to work at the edge of the body, where it takes notice, but is not feeling "unsafe," that is where the magic happens! In personal relationships AND on a cellular level within the sacred space of your body. Your child’s body. The body can choose with that kind of interface in every technique you will be learning in the Bodywork Project.

What about liability?

I am not teaching my parents to "open up a professional shop", but with the ability to treat only your own family. People who join the Parent Bodywork Project sign a liability form stating that they are not positioning themselves as professionals. They will be parent healers. The homesteading of bodywork..

That being said, I imagine many of them will decide to pursue a massage therapy license, as the work itself is both beautiful and rewarding, and a congruent thing to be doing as a human, not a cog or a bot… Additionally, I know for a fact that these techniques are not taught in traditional physical therapy schools, so no time is wasted. Anyone who learns this stuff will just be ahead of the curve if they choose that path.
